Last year MOMentumNation hosted a 12-hour twitter-athon with handoffs to NGO’s, communities and various hosts. It’s hard to believe that almost a year has passed. Malala Yousafzai helped fuel the focus on this important challenge and just last month spoke in front of the United Nations on behalf of girls around the world.
As a mother of a daughter who has wanted to run off and be an actress, I’ve stressed the need for an education to fall back on and have insisted she go to college and get her degree. But so many girls are not given that opportunity, but instead are forced to work in the home, get married at young ages and bear children before they’ve even had a chance to get out of their childhood years.
Host your own event.
10X10 Girls Rising is looking to continue to spread the word community by community on October 11, International Day of The Girl and you can host your own event and join hundreds of others globally.
They will give you everything you need to host your own event: posters, templates, sample tweets and more. And they’ll be there to answer any questions you might have. Nothing feels better than using your voice to support much needed change.
If you’re interested in helping MOMentumNation with a Twitter party, please let me know.
