Mother’s Day at the Westin: Heavenly Beds, Pampered Poochie and Kinky Boots

Lifestyle

Pepper and dog bowlsStudy after study says moms are stressed. We don’t just multi-task, we hyper task. And if you’re like me, I have a hard time just sitting and reading a book, because if I look around and something needs straightening up, I have to do it before I can relax. Well not this weekend–I had a relaxing, heavenly Mother’s Day weekend with my daughter and our family dog courtesy of the The Westin Grand Central Hotel.

Now you may think it’s strange to go spend a weekend at a hotel in New York City when I live in New York City, but trust me it’s a great way to get away. No laundry, dishes, bed making, or fussing around the house. The hotel takes care of you and anything you need. So I took the time to plan a weekend of shopping and seeing the Broadway show Kinky Boots.

heavenlydogbedWe walked in knowing there would be a “heavenly dog bed,” but had no clue we would also find two dog bowls for him sitting on a Westin branded mat. But that wasn’t all. They had a little gift bag for our pampered pooch that had poop disposal bags and gloves for the poop picker-upper. This was a whole new way of thinking for me, as I never travel with Pepper opting to find someone to take care of him instead. (It’s not always easy to find someone despite how cute and easy he is to take care for.)

The only problem was I couldn’t stay awake and I blame it on the softer-than-soft goose down and feather pillows along with the luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding. And if you can’t make yourself get out of the bed there are extended hours for breakfast and for check out time.

I bet you didn’t know that if you decline housekeeping the next morning, you get a $5 voucher at participating neighborhood places or 500 SPG Star Points. A little green for being green!

gymAre you a road warrior who wants to stay in shape, but hates packing all that extra clothes and shoes? Forget packing your workout clothes when you stay at Westin, for $5 you can borrow New Balance shoes, socks and workout clothes from the hotel. Unlike my gym in the city, the Westin gym is open 24 hours so there’s no excuse for missing a workout. Plus there were restorative eucalyptus towels and healthy apples for the taking.

My daughter went crazy for the choice of showerheads and is now incessantly bugging me to replace the showerhead at home. And I had to take the white tea and aloe soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner with me. It will be like extending my Westin Mother’s Day weekend a little longer.

Disclosure: I was given 15,000 SPG Star Points as compensation for this weekend stay. All opinions are genuine, and my own!

    • Yep, heavenly beds for us and the dog. As if he wasn’t spoiled enough already.

  1. Thanks. Where else will you find a hotel with a custom dog bed for your best friend?
