I am a UN Shot@Life Champion and had the honor of going to The Hill when I was in Washington a year ago. And in actuality, the UN set up over 80 meetings with Senators and House of Representatives for us. It was amazing. As an American citizen, I knew I had the right to do so, but had never exercised it. It was so empowering. After I sent thank you notes to Kristen Gilbrand’s representatives and they responded! They will listen to you.
So when I was asked to join the support of “Invisible Threat” I had to say yes.
What is the Invisible Threat?
Invisible Threat is a 40-minute documentary created by award winning student filmmakers. The students do their own research and come to their own conclusions. And the film centers on the diseases that are slowly that coming back. The film has earned praise from more than 50 organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, Johns Hopkins, Texas Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Mayo Clinic, and Every Child By Two.
And this movement is led by:
Amy Pisani, Executive Director of Every Child By Two
Lisa Posard, producer of Invisible Threat
Dr. Mark Sawyer, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist at the UCSD School of Medicine and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego
Frankie Milley, Executive Director of Meningitis Angels and one of several parent advocates
Christine Vara, lead contributor for ECBT’s Shot of Prevention blog and Vaccinate Your Baby Facebook page.

Most of us are too young to remember the days when polio was feared in America. It was a scary time and thousands were infected and those who still live deal with the aftermath of polio like my Uncle. And 10 polio-like cases have been found in California just recently.
We now have more cases of measles then we’ve seen in decades. And mumps. Meningitis. Pertussis. Influenza. Even more frightening is because many doctors have not seen some of these diseases before and diagnosis can be missed or takes too long.
And these diseases are all just a plane ride away. And they don’t need a passport to enter the United States. I hope it doesn’t take a huge outbreak to bring a wake-up call on the importance of vaccinations.
Exacerbating the situation, we live in the age of misinformation.
Celebrities have fueled the vaccine debates with misinformed advice that vaccines cause autism. An inordinate amount of information proves this wrong and one doctor has been banned from practicing medicine for spreading this without definitive evidence. The public needs to be educated and informed. Vaccines are among the most researched medicines today and have been long proven to save lives. There is absolutely no scientific data that supports they cause autism. All this misperception is causing parents to delay or decline life-saving vaccines. So these diseases are coming back.
